BASIS in the Media

BASIS Charter Schools, recognized as among the very best in both US and international rankings, offer students the opportunity of their lifetimes. “I am involved with BASIS because I know it employs a model that works. With these fundamentals in place, the BASIS Schools have achieved phenomenal results.”
Dr. Craig Barrett, Chairman and President of BASIS Board of Directors, retired Chairman & CEO of Intel Corporation

10210 S. 50th Place Phoenix, Arizona 85044  Phone: 480.659.2294

BASIS Ahwatukee, located in the developing Piedmont technology corridor, opens on August 5th to almost 600 students in Grades 5-10. It will add an additional grade each year and in 2016 the school will have their first graduating class.

BASIS Ahwatukee features the same rigorous academic program as our legacy schools in Scottsdale and Tucson.

The lower school program focuses on building organizational and study skills and creating a deep knowledge base necessary for students to tackle the demanding AP-driven upper school curriculum. Latin, general science and physical geography are introduced in Grade 5. Physics, chemistry and biology are featured in Grade 6. Students in Grade 7 have the opportunity to study Mandarin, French or Spanish.

The BASIS legacy schools in Scottsdale and Tucson are consistently recognized as having one of the finest high school programs in the country and have been highly ranked by U.S. News, Newsweek, and The Washington Post. Students take honors and Advanced Placement (AP) courses as early as 8th grade. These College Board courses and exams are now recognized and valued by over 90% of the universities and colleges in the country as well as many prestigious universities overseas. Over the next few years, BASIS Ahwatukee will offer all students Honors, AP and post-AP level classes in the high school grades.

Welcome, I am delighted to become the first Head of School at BASIS Ahwatukee and the first to oversee the new, custom-built campus on 50th Place.

Following three, exhilarating years as the Head of BASIS Scottsdale, I am proud to offer a higher standard of American education to the south Phoenix area. I have hired wonderful teachers with in-depth knowledge of their subject material who are ready and willing to share their expertise with their students. BASIS offers a rigorous curriculum that will challenge everyone. Co-Founders Michael and Olga Block created a college preparatory curriculum to educate American students at the same level as their international peers in top-performing countries such as Finland, Korea, China and Canada. The continued growth of BASIS Charter Schools demonstrates the impact of their vision. We know that being a BASIS student will be challenging; and also know that students joining us in this inaugural year can excel, regardless of grade, providing they are willing to work hard. Taking personal responsibility for their own educational is something we will help students develop. Over the coming years, they may seize the opportunity to study Economics, Mandarin, Statistics, Intro to Law, as well as take six Advanced Placement courses before graduation.

Now, as BASIS opens a new BASIS Charter School in Ahwatukee, I personally welcome you to an educational environment of which most can only dream.
